The 5-Day High Atlas Berber Villages Hike is the most complete cultural trek in our range — a five-day journey through three distinct valleys (Ait Oussaden, Azzaden, and Imenane) with Berber village stays every night and a stunning variety of landscapes from red-clay terraces to high mountain passes. This trek takes the popular Atlas 4-Day Berber Villages Trek route and adds an extra day exploring the beautiful Imenane Valley — a circular route through terraced hamlets with views of Jebel Oukaimeden.
Starting from Imi Oughlad (1,450 m), you spend three days in the rarely visited Assif n’Ait Oussaden valley — red-clay villages, walnut groves, and quiet passes — before crossing into the Azzaden Valley via Tizi Oussem. Day 4 visits the Ighouliden Waterfalls and crosses the Tizi M’zzik pass (2,489 m) into Imlil. Day 5 is a spectacular circular hike through the Imenane Valley via two mountain passes, with views of Jebel Oukaimeden (3,268 m), before the transfer back to Marrakech.
The entire route lies within the Toubkal National Park (established 1942). This is an easy to moderate trek, ideal for anyone wanting a deep, unhurried immersion into Berber mountain culture across five days. No summit climbing — pure village trekking. For a shorter version, see our Atlas 4-Day Berber Villages Trek; for a version that adds a Toubkal summit, see the 5-Day Berber Villages & Toubkal Round Trek.
Imlil Trek operates under Extra Mile Travel (License #16D/19), a licensed Moroccan tour operator based in the Imlil valley with over a decade of experience organizing treks in the Toubkal National Park.
Note: Prices are for the 2026 season and may increase during winter season and in periods of snow. Additional costs may apply due to extra logistics, including the use of porters and additional mountain guides required for safety and equipment transport.
Transfer from Marrakech through the Moulay Brahim Gorge to Imi Oughlad (1,450 m). Acclimatization hike through cornfields, pine, and juniper to Tizi n’Tachte (2,000 m) with views of the Imlil and Ait Oussaden valleys. Lunch at Imi n’Ifri. Descend to the red-clay terraced village of Tiziane (1,750 m). Overnight in guesthouse.
Day 1 Stats:
Follow the Assif n’Ait Oussaden valley through walnut groves to Tizi n’Taghrhourte (1,995 m), then along a rare flat stretch to Assaka Spring. Field picnic in the silence. Afternoon hike along forest edges to D’knt (1,870 m). Overnight in guesthouse.
Day 2 Stats:

Day 3 Stats:
Trek to Azib Tamsoult and visit the Ighouliden Waterfalls — one of the highest cascades in the Atlas. Cross the Tizi M’zzik pass (2,489 m) with panoramic views of the Toubkal massif. Descend to Imlil (1,740 m). Overnight at Dar Adrar guesthouse or similar.
Day 4 Stats:

Cross the Tizi n’Agersioual pass (1,767 m) and descend to the Assif n’Ait Mizane Valley, then return south through the villages of Agersioual, Taddart, and Ait Souka back to Imlil. Transfer to Marrakech.
Day 5 Stats:
Seasonal note: This trek runs year-round. Winter months may require warm layers on passes; spring offers green valleys and waterfalls at their best; summer is warm — start early; autumn provides clear views and harvest colours.
Easy to moderate — this is a cultural trek, not a summit challenge. Daily walks of 5–7 hours on gentle mule tracks through villages and valleys. The highest point is the Tizi M’zzik pass (2,489 m) on Day 4. Suitable for families, first-time trekkers, and all fitness levels.
The 4-Day trek covers the same Days 1–4 route (Ait Oussaden valley → Azzaden → Tizi M’zzik → Imlil). This 5-day version adds an extra day exploring the Imenane Valley — a circular route through terraced Berber hamlets with views of Jebel Oukaimeden. More villages, more valleys, more immersion.
The Villages & Toubkal Round Trek combines Berber villages with a Toubkal summit climb (4,167 m). This trek stays at comfortable village altitudes with no summit attempt — it’s the pure culture option. Different character: one is an achievement trek, this is an immersion trek.
