Toubkal Ascent 3-Day Trek via the Azzaden Valley is one of the most rewarding mountain routes in Morocco. It combines the classic ascent of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m) — the highest peak in North Africa — with a scenic circuit through the beautiful Azzaden Valley, offering a more varied and less crowded experience than the standard 2-day Toubkal route.
Starting from Marrakech, you transfer to Imlil (1,740 m) and trek across the Tizi n’Mzik pass into the remote Azzaden Valley for the first overnight. Day two climbs past the Ighouliden Waterfalls and over the Aguelzim Pass (3,560 m) to reach the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m) — base camp for the summit. The final morning brings the push to the top, with panoramic views stretching north toward Marrakech and south toward the Sahara Desert.
The entire route lies within the Toubkal National Park (established 1942). No technical mountaineering skills are required — just good fitness and experienced local Berber guides to lead the way.
This is a moderate to challenging trek, ideal for fit hikers who want to summit Toubkal while experiencing the scenic Azzaden Valley route.
Imlil Trek operates under Extra Mile Travel (License #16D/19), a licensed Moroccan tour operator based in the Imlil valley with over a decade of experience organizing treks in the Toubkal National Park.
Note: Prices are for the 2026 season and may increase during winter months and periods of snow. Additional costs may apply due to extra logistics, including the use of porters, crampons, ice axes, and additional mountain guides required for safety and equipment transport.
Morning transfer to Imlil. Trek across Tizi n’Mzik pass (2,489 m) with views of Mount Toubkal, descend through juniper forest into the Azzaden Valley. Overnight in Berber guesthouse in Tamsoult village.
Day 1 Stats:
– Walking: 5–6 hours
– Distance: ~10 km
– Elevation gain: +750 m / −250 m
– Highest point: Tizi n’Mzik Pass — 2,489 m
### Day 2 : Tamsoult → Aguelzim Pass → Toubkal Refuge
Ascend from Tamsoult past the impressive Ighouliden Waterfalls and through high-altitude terrain toward Aguelzim Pass (3,560 m), the most demanding section of the trek. After crossing the pass with spectacular views across the High Atlas, descend to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m) — base camp for the summit.
Day 2 Stats:
Early morning departure for the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167 m). After panoramic views from the top, descend back to the refuge, continue down through the Sidi Chamharouch shrine area to Imlil. Transfer back to Marrakech.
Day 3 Stats:
Seasonal note: Between November and April, crampons and ice axes may be required due to snow and ice conditions on the summit trail.
Moderate to challenging — suitable for fit hikers who can walk 5–9 hours per day on mountain terrain. You should be comfortable covering 12–15 km on hilly ground in a single day. No technical climbing is required.
Previous hiking experience is recommended but not mandatory. Good physical fitness and comfortable walking on uneven trails are sufficient.
All our treks are private — you hike with your own licensed guide at your own pace.

Most trekkers adapt well. The Azzaden Valley route allows gradual acclimatization over 2 days before the summit push. Guides monitor conditions and adjust pace as needed.
Around 5:00–6:00 pm on Day 3.
The summit day is demanding. This trek is recommended for participants aged 14+ with good fitness.
Yes — since 2019, a licensed mountain guide is mandatory for all treks in the Toubkal National Park. All Imlil Trek guides are CFAMM-certified and from the local Imlil region.
The 2-day Toubkal trek follows the direct route via Sidi Chamharouch. The 3-day version takes the scenic Azzaden Valley circuit — a quieter, more varied route that also allows better acclimatization before the summit push, reducing altitude sickness risk.
