Private guided 4-day summit trek with acclimatization — Toubkal & Ouanoukrim twin peaks, refuge stay, meals & transfers included

Tour Overview :

The 4-Day Toubkal Ascent Trek is the most complete way to summit Mount Toubkal (4,167 m) — adding a dedicated acclimatization day with an ascent of the Ouanoukrim twin peaks (4,089 m) before the main summit push. This extra day significantly improves your chances of reaching the top comfortably and reduces altitude sickness risk compared to the faster 2-day Toubkal trek.

Starting from Marrakech, you transfer to Imlil (1,740 m) and trek up the Ait Mizane Valley to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m) on Day 1. Day 2 is spent acclimatizing with an ascent of Ouanoukrim — Morocco’s second and third highest peaks — with spectacular views of Toubkal from a different angle. Day 3 is summit day on Mount Toubkal (4,167 m), and Day 4 is the descent back to Imlil and transfer to Marrakech.

The entire route lies within the Toubkal National Park (established 1942). This is a moderate to challenging trek, ideal for hikers who want the best summit success rate with proper acclimatization and the bonus of climbing two 4,000 m peaks in one trip. For the faster option, see our 2-day Toubkal trek; for a scenic approach via the Azzaden Valley, see the 3-day Toubkal trek.

4-Day Toubkal Ascent Trek At-a-Glance :

  • Route:Marrakech → Imlil → Ait Mizane Valley → Sidi Chamharouch → Toubkal Refuge → Ouanoukrim Peaks (4,089 m) → Toubkal Summit (4,167 m) → Imlil → Marrakech
  • Duration:4 days / 3 nights
  • Difficulty:Moderate to challenging — good fitness required
  • Total distance:~36–40 km trekking
  • Highest point:Mount Toubkal Summit — 4,167 m
  • Summits:Two — Ouanoukrim (4,089 m) + Toubkal (4,167 m)
  • Overnight:Toubkal Mountain Refuge (3 nights)
  • Transfers:Private A/C vehicle from/to Marrakech included
  • Meals:Full board during trek (Lunch Day 1 → Lunch Day 4)

In short: Summit two 4,000 m peaks in the High Atlas — including North Africa’s highest — with a dedicated acclimatization day that makes the main summit significantly more achievable and enjoyable.

FAQs :

How difficult is the 4-Day Toubkal Ascent Trek?

Moderate to challenging. Good physical fitness is required, especially for the summit day (7–8 hours). The dedicated acclimatization day with Ouanoukrim makes this trek significantly more comfortable than the 2-day version. No technical climbing is required in summer.

What's the advantage over the 2-day Toubkal trek?

The 4-day version includes a dedicated acclimatization day climbing the Ouanoukrim twin peaks (4,089 m) before summit day. This extra day at altitude greatly reduces altitude sickness risk and means you arrive at the Toubkal summit better prepared and stronger. You also get to climb two additional 4,000 m peaks.

What are the Ouanoukrim twin peaks?

Ouanoukrim comprises Timesguida (4,089 m) and Ras n’Ouanoukrim (4,083 m) — Morocco’s second and third highest summits. They sit at the head of the Ait Mizane Valley near the Toubkal Refuge and offer spectacular views of Toubkal from a unique angle. The ascent involves some easy scrambling near the top.

Is technical climbing required?

No in summer — the route is non-technical. In winter (November–April), crampons and ice axes are required for both summit attempts and the approach trails. Some easy scrambling is involved near the Ouanoukrim summit.

Can beginners join?

Yes — beginners with good physical fitness and determination can complete this trek. The acclimatization day makes it significantly more forgiving than the 2-day version. Prior mountain hiking experience is beneficial but not mandatory.

Are meals included?

Yes — full board including all meals from lunch on Day 1 to lunch on Day 4. Meals are prepared by a local cook with fresh ingredients.

What accommodation is provided?

3 nights at the Toubkal Mountain Refuge (3,207 m) — shared dormitory rooms with mattresses and blankets, hot showers, heated lounge with fireplace. Private rooms available on request (subject to availability).

Is altitude sickness a concern?

The 4-day format with an acclimatization day is specifically designed to minimize altitude sickness. Most trekkers adapt well with this approach. Guides monitor conditions and adjust pace as needed. If you’re concerned about altitude, this is the recommended option over the 2-day trek.

What should I pack?

Hiking boots, warm layers (down jacket essential), waterproof jacket, headlamp, water bottle, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and personal items. In winter: gloves, balaclava, gaiters, and thermal base layers.

Is this a private trek?

Yes — fully private with your own licensed guide and flexible pace.

When do we return to Marrakech?

Around 4:00–5:00 pm on Day 4.

Do I need a guide for this trek?

Yes — since 2019, a licensed mountain guide is mandatory for all treks in the Toubkal National Park. All Imlil Trek guides are CFAMM-certified and from the local Imlil region.

Can the equipment be rented?

Yes — crampons, ice axes, trekking poles, boots, and other equipment can be rented in Imlil village before the trek. Your guide will assist you.
