Get ready for an exhilarating 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour that kicks off early in the morning. Our team will pick you up from your hotel or Riad at approximately 8:00 AM. Our first stop will be at the iconic Kasbah Ait Ben Hadou, but before that, we will embark on a scenic drive through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi Ntichka pass, passing by charming Berber villages made of adobe. We will make several stops along the way for breathtaking photo opportunities, to stretch our legs or to sip on a cup of coffee.

We will then head to Ouarzazate for a quick lunch before continuing our journey to Skoura oasis, which is one of the largest in the Sahara desert of Morocco. This area is renowned for its perfectly restored Kasbah Amridil, a sight worth seeing. Our local guide will accompany us on a tour of the premises, where you will learn about the traditional Sahara architecture and the medieval irrigation techniques used in the nearby oases.

From there, we will proceed to Boumalne Dades via the Valley of Roses, which is famous for its Damascus Rose plantations and local women cooperatives that produce rose water and other rose-based cosmetic products. Before reaching our lodge, we will make a stop at the top of Dades canyons for a quick visit.

We will then arrive at our Dades Valley lodge, where you will enjoy a delicious dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Day 2Boumalne Dades - Tinghir - Merzouga

Wake up to a scrumptious breakfast and get ready for another exciting day on our Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour. We will begin by taking the 1001 Kasbahs road to the charming oasis village of Tinghir. Here, you can soak in the enchanting ambiance of the Todgha River and take a stroll along the riverbanks to marvel at the unique lifestyle of the Berber villages and Kasbahs. Soon, you will be awestruck by the stunning landscape of the massive cliffs of Todgha Gorges.

In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to Erfoud, which is renowned for its date market and production of fossilized marble. Next, we will visit the holy town of Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty that still governs Morocco today.

From here, we will make our way to Merzouga, where you will embark on an exciting camel ride, sitting back and taking in the breathtaking view of the color-changing dunes and the mesmerizing sunset. We will then return to your Sahara Desert camp for a magical Moroccan dinner under the stars and next to the campfire.

FAQ

When to hike in Morocco?

The best time to hike in Morocco is during the spring (March to May) and the fall (September to November). During these months, the weather is typically mild, with comfortable temperatures during the day and cool nights. The landscapes are also more colorful during these seasons, as wildflowers bloom in the spring and the foliage changes color in the fall.

However, it’s still possible to hike in Morocco during the summer and winter months. Summer can be hot, but the higher elevations in the Atlas Mountains offer cooler temperatures. Winter can be cold, especially at higher altitudes, but there are still opportunities for winter hiking and skiing. It’s important to note that some trails and passes may be inaccessible during the winter months due to snow and ice.

How hard is it to climb Mount Toubkal?

Climbing Mount Toubkal can be a challenging hike, but it’s generally considered a moderate to strenuous climb. The difficulty of the climb will depend on several factors, including your level of fitness, previous hiking experience, and the route you choose to take.

The standard route to the summit starts in the village of Imlil and involves hiking to the Toubkal Refuge, where climbers can rest for the night before making the final ascent to the summit the following day. The hike to the refuge is approximately 5-6 hours and involves a steady uphill climb.

The final ascent to the summit involves some steep and rocky terrain and can take 3-4 hours, depending on your pace. Altitude can also be a factor, as the summit of Toubkal is 4,167 meters (13,671 feet) above sea level. It’s important to acclimate properly to the altitude and take necessary precautions to prevent altitude sickness.

That being said, the climb to Mount Toubkal is accessible to most hikers with a moderate level of fitness and previous hiking experience. It’s recommended to train and prepare for the climb in advance, with a focus on building endurance and stamina.
